Process mapping

Process maps outline the steps within an organisation’s workflow by analysing detail and making it possible to identify areas that need improvement. Process mapping helps reduce risk by developing and validating business processes and their supporting system processes.

Pearson Trueman & Associates uses tried and tested process mapping techniques to validate our analysis of business and technical processes and deliver quality process maps that organisations readily understand and easily read.

Using a structured approach, we:

  • Identify end-to-end processes through a work breakdown structure (WBS) and Six Sigma tenets
  • Analyse how an initiative transforms a process
  • Identify ways in which to measure effectiveness of the transformation
  • Map the processes using tools such as iGrafx and MS Visio
  • Gain approval of process maps at each level before drilling down to the next
  • Create a hierarchy of processes that define an organisation or department from the top down.

We then analyse the process maps for accuracy, establish new core process streams and improve processes for optimal business performance and design a solution to meet emerging needs.

Case study

A large financial organisation needed help to identify processes and then develop process flow charts and procedures to consolidate and improve their business productivity.

We identified and validated these processes, then documented them as step-by-step instructions.

Using a proven methodology we identified end-to-end processes and mapped current (as-is) processes, then conducted workshops to identify future (to-be) processes.

This information was then authorised by the business and used to support delivery of a new integrated application.

The results: The organisation used the documentation produced to reduce their risk when key people were unavailable, measure productivity and increase return to shareholders.
